This morning as I was allowing my T Gel the two minutes it needs to magically stop my scalp from itching like there are a gazillion ants wriggling over it I realised how unappreciated it must feel. I mean, for me it’s one beauty essential I try not to stray from but do I ever shout about it? No, because it’s not very ‘glam’…

I think it’s time to give those beauty essentials that aren’t all swishy, pretty and flowery a turn in the spotlight so here are my top 3 Unsung Beauty Heroes. Perhaps you’ll want to share some of yours too?..

T-Gel Therapeutic Shampoo

Often, and more especially over Winter, my scalp gets so itchy and uncomfortable. As soon as this happens I reach for T-Gel and I’m not kidding – it works from the very first wash. In fact, it works so well and my scalp is so ‘normal’ afterwards that I only have to wash my hair once a week. The Therapeutic Shampoo is also OK for colour-treated hair (like mine) and I’ve even grown to like the coal tar smell which is quite ‘old school’. £4.48

I have patches of spots that appear around my chin and the corner of my mouth. For ages I tried a tea tree gel which didn’t do much apart from smell. However, after buying the Clean & Clear gel the spots literally withered in front of my eyes. It does sting a bit (I kind of like that) but if you use it regularly throughout the day you can expect spots to go in a few days. I think it also helps to stop them spreading. £2.95

Scholl Dual Action Foot File

Not one to ponder on for too long (have you noticed how these ads always come on just as you’re grating Parmesan onto your pasta) but I do so love to have a good old scrub at that stubborn, hard skin on my heels. When I have a shower I reach for my Scholl Foot File and give the little blighters a jolly vigorous rub. It certainly seem to smooth them off and gives me some stress relief. All I need to do afterwards is make sure I put body cream on the heels (socks at the ready) and voila! £5.27

Which products are your ‘Insung Beauty Heroes?’ I’d love to know…
