Nikki Cooke’s swimwear promises elegant designs for ‘real women.’ Being one such woman I was keen to try out Eliza, a beautiful, Fifties inspired swimsuit…

If you want to do some serious swimwear drooling head over to Nikki Cooke designs. Nikki’s site features an inspired selection of swimwear from swimsuits to bikini tops and pants all of which are designed with busts and supporting them in mind. After much lusting I picked out the red ‘Eliza’, £99.99.

All the pieces in Cooke’s swimwear shop offer support for a bust without the use of uncomfy wiring. In the case of Eliza the bust is supported with moulded padding (you can choose from a selection of cup sizes to get a good fit) and some cleverly designed straps. Initially I thought the moulding wouldn’t provide enough support but in fact, combined with the straps, there were no unsightly wobbles. The straps are particularly useful because they keep the bust where it should be (even if it has different ideas) and are designed so they can be taken down for tanning (avoiding lines) thereby creating a bandeau style which maintains both dignity and lift.

Now no swimwear review is complete without being properly road-tested and in the case of Eliza she has been put through her paces with daily swimming and exposure thanks to our current sailing adventure. This Eliza, my friend, has done a lot.

A key to a good swimsuit is one that doesn’t need tugs and tweaks when you get undressed or exit the water. I can honestly say I didn’t need to worry or fiddle as Eliza stayed in place throughout. The swimsuit is made with stretch polyamide and elastane and is fully lined so there are no worries of it going – eek – see-through. Eliza is also made with Xtra Life LYCRA® so it springs back into shape even when it has been pegged out and baked in the sun!

The back gives a bikini illusion but is really there to support the bust. I liked the nice touch of the gold fastener (there are also gold rings on the front too) which added a bit of bling. As well as being practical number Eliza is certainly one that you could happily jaunt around a pool in, splay on a sun lounger or wear whilst seated on a bar stool with an umbrella’d cocktail in hand. In fact, I’d say it would be rude not to!

As well as at the pool Eliza has fitted in with the yachting life and has been robust enough to muck in with pulling in the sheets and has maintained fit and coverage even with big leaps off the front of the boat. Stylish and supportive Nikki Cooke’s Eliza is my go-to costume this summer.

*Many thanks to Nikki Cooke design for the Eliza swimsuit
