Don’t panic this is a rattle/direct debit clipboard free post! I just wanted to spread the word about two blogging mums who are waking up and taking in the sights, sounds and amazing efforts of amongst others the ONE organisation within Ethiopia. As part of a #ONEMum and #ONEMoms entourage BritMums Co-Founder Jennifer Howze and Michelle Pannell from Mummy from the Heart are currently in Ethiopia with ONE International to see how the campaigning organization raises awareness of extreme poverty and preventable disease.

Join the fight against extreme poverty

I read Michelle’s Day 1 blog last night and was really captured by her descriptions of arriving at the Mary Joy Aid Through Development organisation where she danced (well jiggled at least), hugged (lots) and learned how this community work as just that – a community. Taking the lead from Sister Zebedir Zewdie, the group has peer mothers who look after families and holistically tackle prevention and treatment for a whole variety of issues from literacy through to living with HIV. Michelle explains it all very well, her audio clip is a real insight into the trip itself, so rather than me tell it badly, hop over to her site and take a look for yourself and follow her (and Jennifer’s) journey.

Now I bet, like me you’re wondering what we can do sitting here with our laptops and lattes? Well, as Mums (or Dads or just good souls) we can spread the word about ONE’s work, sign the petition Put Nutrition on the Global Agenda petition and splatter it all over your own blogs, facebook page, tweets and anywhere else you find yourself visible and vocal. Oh,  and importantly, use your fab networking skills to encourage others to do the same. As I said before, ONE doesn’t want your money – they want your time, ideas and voice to help raise awareness for their campaign.

It only takes ONE Mum - prevention of starvation and preventable diseases
No doubt you’ll be just like me and want to be able to do more. Here’s what else you could do:

1. Take part in a great The “It Only Takes ONEMum” Meme on Seasider In the City blog. It’s quick and easy and does what it says on the tin – lets us add our voices to the campaign.

2. The mascot for ‘Putting Nutrition on the Global Agenda’ is a sweet potato. ONE is asking for help compiling a  ONE’s Recipe for Change cookbook - so foodie types could maybe create/add your own sweet potato recipe to this?

3. Follow Jennifer and Michelle as they tweet using the #ONEMums hashtag

More details of the tour can be found on BritMums (there’s even talk of a Google hangout).
