page contents Join the ‘no frills’ gym | mummy rates it

You don’t need me to tell you how important it is to work-out but for many people the cost of joining a gym is enough to send them slobbing back to the sofa munching a pack of luminous, cheesy, worm-shaped snacks…

FitSpace - low cost gyms

The good/bad news (delete as applicable) is that the price of joining a gym can no longer be used as an excuse. Yes, we’ve had low-cost airlines and no frills supermarkets and now you can join a gym that offers all the basics you need for a great work-out but without hefty membership fees. Following on from the success of stripped back clubs in Europe and the US, FitSpace Gyms offer quality gym equipment with fees starting from a mere £12 a month.

Whilst you won’t find swanky pools and a timetable of classes you will find a safe and secure gym with an Oyster-card swipe in system and of course there’s plenty of cardio equipment (bikes, rower, steppers) as well as weight machines and free weights to get you working-up a sweat and into better shape.

At the moment there are 9 Fitspace Gyms scattered around the country but with plans for more to open. If you’re tempted to join up you can do it all from the comfort of your home which means you’ll have more time and energy to dust off your leg-warmers for your first session.

Finally, if you’re a gym novice there’s no need to worry about sitting back to front on the equipment or flying off the end of the running machine. When you sign up you get a free induction with a personal trainer. Phew. What are you waiting for? Go get ‘em!

  1. The no frills gym in the area we live in is GymBug. Think its around £15 a month and the equipment is really good, No swimming pool, or saunas though, but how members use them anyway.
I workout from home, but if I didn\’t I would definitely join a no frills gym.
The only thing that would put me off, is how many people go at peak times, if you can\’t get onto the machines then it doesn\’t matter how cheap the membership is. You are not going to get a good workout in

  2. A lot of affordable gyms today would be enough for us to get in shape. People should not be choosy especially when it comes to your health. I am a busy person so I usually workout at home but like others, I will definitely choose no frills gym. You get to use all the equipments that you really need in a good price.

  3. So what you are telling me is that I can no longer use the hefty fees as an excuse not to join a gym. Back to the drawing board for my next excuse LOL. This is awesome to know, a lot of the time people are not interested in aerobics classes and spinning classes and just need a place to go to work out. This is a great idea.
