So last week I said I’d be taking the plunge and going back to bikinis (after last summer’s frumpy swimwear). However, I know bikinis aren’t for everyone for various reasons. So I’ve pulled out a selection of high street swimwear and cover-ups that will be perfect for the beach, lounging round the pool and even for parading around your local baths.

The great thing about swimwear is, due to its size, it can do a lot more to suck in and lift up parts that a bikini can’t. Both of the Very and the pink Dorothy Perkins swimsuits have hidden tummy control which is great if you’ve got got a mum-tum to pull in. The black Very swimsuit also has moulded cups – great for defying gravity and giving those lucky enough to have an ample chest plenty of support.

By the way, there is nothing but high praise for the Next red ruffle swimsuit on their website. Reviewers say that the skirt can be pulled down to create a great little sundress. Sounds perfect for when you leave the beach and grab a quick drink or bite to eat before heading back to your hotel/apartment. Just so you know it’s also available in green.

Cover-ups

Right, so you’ve got your swimwear sorted but there are times (when you’re burnt, eating, drinking, splodging around) that you feel like pulling on a cover-up.

If you’re one of those people who manages to really plan their holiday packing (sombreros off to you) these cover-ups can also work well as tunics and dresses for the evening. The orange Dorothy Perkins cover-up would look really great dressed up with some chunky bangles and pretty sandals. I can also see me, cocktail in hand, wearing the Topshop animal print cover-up as a tunic.

What do you make of the Very jumpsuit? I thought that was a ‘new’ idea for beachwear and one that could take off. Again, that could easily be dressed up for the night but remember those jumpsuits can be a devil when you need the loo (the whole thing has to come down).

What will you be wearing on the beach this summer? I’d love to know.

  1. What a gorgeous array of stuff. You make everything sound so interesting and varied. I often think if I were to publish a magazine, then I’d have you writing for it – if you didn’t mind! This is one of my favourite blogs and I’m going to make more of a point of saying so when the momentum is there on Twitter. You go to a lot of trouble and are clearly very good at what you do X

  2. Oh Anya that’s very kind of you to say, thank you. I’m glad you’re enjoying it!
ps: yes I’d happily work for the magazine – we would have a ball!! xx

  3. I have the floral Debenhams one and it nicely conceals my none-too-perfect tum!

    • Oh great, there’s a thumbs up for the Debenhams one. Thanks for letting me know. x
