Fashion & Beauty Just for YOU — 29 May 2012

Out shopping with a friend recently we were lured, yes lured completely against our will, into Russell & Bromley by some very beautiful, multi-coloured heels. There they were, on top of a plinth (like something out of Trafalgar Square) all shiny, dainty and cooing to us and hold on – GULP – with a price tag of over £200. Well, you’ve never seen two women exit a shop so quickly – thank goodness we were wearing flats.

Now, for many £200 is OK for a pair of ‘occasion’ shoes but we had neither the occasion nor pocket to suit. However, from that moment on we saw similar shoes all over the High Street and well under that price so I thought I’d share some of these finds with you in my little edit below.

I think you’ll agree they look really summery and because of the many colours you’re sure to have something in one of the colours to wear them with. If you haven’t then you know what to do (just don’t say I said!)

Multicoloured Tri Tone Pointed Toe Cut Out Side Court Shoes, Barratts, £32
Multi Colour Blocked Platform Sandals, Blink, £50
Multi Coloured Leather Sandal, Marta, £129

If I was going to suggest something sensible I’d say you may like to opt for the Next or the Office multi-coloured versions above. Not only are they gorgeous (the Office ones are particularly funky) but they also have a big, supportive heel which equals comfy. I wouldn’t have always said this, in fact years ago I used to have a Saturday job in Monsoon and stood all day long wearing a pair of 4 inch platform heels. I felt nothing. Not a niggle. I was a hardcore heel-wearer.

These days however, either shoes have changed or I have because I can barely make it through a five-minute walk in a pair. Years of wearing flat shoes on a day to day basis, the need to be able to go from 0-60MPH to prevent a child from being run over, has reduced my feet to fussy. For some insane reason they my plates do not enjoy being squeezed into tight and too high heels.

With these points in mind do you know what I have bought to wear to a party in a few weeks time? No, not a wedgy, medium heel which will support me throughout the night. Not a pair of cute, glittery ballerina pumps. No, a pair of 5inch stilettos that J-Lo would be proud of (below). See, told you I wasn’t sensible.
