Fink about it: Get talking this Mother's Day

Great Mother’s Day conversations

It’s very easy to let Mother’s Day go through the motions – give daffs/chocs – have a nice lunch – roll on next year. However, I reckon Fink cards have come up with a great idea that will really make this Mother’s Day one to remember. Their ‘mums edition’ conversation cards will inspire great chat amongst all the generations. For example, do you know what your Gran’s most treasured possession is, or what events have shaped your Mum’s life and come to think of it do your kids even know why you chose their name? Written with input from family expert Sarah Newton who found that: ‘talking to Mum is a good as a hug’ I think we’re going to have a very ‘squeezy’ Mother’s Day. The Mums edition from Fink, £5.99 is available nationwide via Amazon, Fink cards or by calling 0845 051 4665

She's The One: Writing competition

Tell your Mum's story: Enter the She's The One writing competition

Tell Mum’s story

Is your Mum a story ready to be written? What better way to show your Mum just how much she means to you by writing a story about her? Or perhaps your Mum once told you a story about another woman that you would like to turn into a poem? She’s The One writing competition, in support of International Women’s Day, is a superb opportunity to write about the achievements of women throughout history and the present day. Entries can be poetry, prose or any style you like, though not longer than 350 words. The closing date for the competition is the 30th of June. The winning entries will be published in an anthology to be released in September 2012.

Flowers that last

Monsoon scarf - a lovely gift for Mother's Day

Flowers that last: Monsoon's floral and stripe scarf

Instead of giving your Mum a bunch of flowers this year, how about giving her a floral fashion accessory like this gorgeous scarf from Monsoon. A nod to not one but two of this Spring’s big trends (florals and stripes) it has so many colours it’s sure to go with loads of things in my Mum’s wardrobe. Oh, and if you’re not sure if any of these colours will suit your Mum have a quick look at House of Colour who offer a free guide on this season’s colours and which ones suit.

Bespoke pampering

What Mum doesn’t enjoy a bit of pampering now and then? Or in my case at any opportunity I can get it! I thought that Angela Langford Natural Skincare range sounded lovely but you can never be too sure whether new products are going to suit. However, clever Angela has come up with a two great ideas to make sure that you find the right product for you (and for Mum). Her natural and organic range, all made at her small laboratory in Somerset, can be bespokely tailored to meet your skincare needs. Whilst those on a tighter budget can try out free samples before deciding which product to buy. So how about getting a selection of samples for Mum to try on Mother’s Day and then buying her the bigger version when she’s had time to find her favourite? “Free samples are a great way to ensure my customers and their skin is happy. I don’t charge for the samples, all I ask is customers pay for the packaging and postage,” says Angela.
Visit Angela Langford’s site for details of gift sets, samples and bespoke products.

Give me chocolate! (no clever pun needed)

Now, should anyone in my house be reading this and feel the need to indulge me look no further. I’m not massively into luxuries; I don’t demand gold and diamonds or designer items. In fact, I’d say I’m pretty easily pleased. Pleasure for me comes in the shape of Galaxy – nom, nom, nom. Hardly budget-busting it means that even those little piggy banks can afford to pay out for a bar. In excitement and anticipation of receiving one I went over to the Galaxy website and discovered there’s a new bar – a Galaxy Bubbles WITH ORANGE. My favourite combo – choc meets orange. Oh me – oh my – this Mother’s Day is going to be seriously good ….and then followed by a diet!

Happy Mother’s Day!

  1. I’d quite like that scarf for myself. Think I might be paying Monsoon a visit when I’m next back in the UK.
