Meet this week’s guest on 1 Woman: 10 Questions – the wonderful Lisa from Talking Tots. Lisa, a speech and language therapist and co-founder of the unique Pre-School programme that encourages children to communicate clearly and confidently, shows off her own communication skills. She tells us why Plan B is never enough and how she finds human mishaps (but definitely not doggy ones) a laugh…

Q1: Describe your typical day
During the week it’s the usual mad rush to get the children off to school, run a few personal errands before heading in to the office for around 9am.
Days in the office usually comprise of tackling a huge inbox, phone calls and liaising with franchisees. Days out of the office are usually filled with meetings. Every Thursday, Tracey and I run our flagship Talking Tots classes in Lytham. This enables us to ‘keep our hand in’ to understand our current franchisees’ role and also provides a showcase for potential franchisees.

Q2: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given and have you followed it?

Be patient.
Don’t rush into things.
Always have a plan b
and then a plan c
plan d
plan e
basically until it works to how you want or expected it to.

Yes … it’s important to keep moving forward.

Q3: What do you think makes a successful woman?

Good communication skills – a successful woman needs to be able to express herself effectively. She must be able to listen to gain insight.

Q4. What 3 things really make you happy and why:

My children (well mostly … some days they drive me potty!)
Family days without time contraints

Q6: How do you relax?

I like to spend time on our boat on Lake Windermere

Q7: What makes you laugh?

There are so many things that make laugh- funny jokes, babies and children, animals, human mishaps …

Q8: If you were given a time machine where and when would you travel to and why?

The early 1900s to see my house and it’s residents … fascinating!

Q9: If you had £10,000 to give to charity which one would you choose and why?
We are heavily involved with I CAN – The children’s communication charity – they do fantastic work supporting children with speech, language and communication difficulties.

Q10: If you could magically create an extra two hours in a day what would you use them for?

I’d like them in the evening for more ‘down time’.

  1. This is a great series Michelle. All your women are down to earth with something intelligent to say, advise or tip the wink over. I think it’s very inspiring and this one from Lisa is no exception. How great to have a boat on Lake Windermere.
